Explore Uganda Safari – 14 Days

Explore Uganda Safari  lets you travel through Uganda and really see what the Pearl of Africa has to offer. You start with rafting on the mighty Nile in Jinja and then continue on to the scenic Sipi Falls before heading through remote parts of the country to Kidepo Valley National park in the far north for untouched wilderness and a meeting with the Karamojong people. The journey southwards then start taking you to Murchison Falls National Park for an abundance of giraffes and on to the Rwenzori mountains for a hike.

Continue on to Queen Elizabeth NP for chimps trekking, Kazinga channel boat-cruise and tree-climbing lions before we reach the great highlight of mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable NP. The last part of the 14-days Explore Uganda Safari takes you for relaxation by beautiful Lake Bunyonyi, looking for zebras in Lake Mburo NP and finally finishing off with a search for the prehistoric looking great shoebill stork.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport 

Explore Uganda Safari Full Itinerary

On your arrival at Entebbe airport to begin your 14 Days Explore Uganda Safari Tour. You’re picked up by our representative, your driver/guide, who will brief you about your safari and transfer you to your place of accommodation. Do a city tour in the afternoon and visit local sights depending on your time.

Day 2: Transfer to Jinja – Sezibwa falls – Source of the Nile – Sipi Falls

After breakfast head to eastwards with en-route stop at Sezibwa Falls. The site is a hidden cultural treasure with a number of traditional attachment for the Buganda Kingdom and believed to be a blessing center, proceed to Mabira eco-tourism forest reserve for an 1-hour trek around, it is a home to over 315 species of Bird like the Nahan’s Francolin, cassin Hawk Eagle, etc then continue with the drive to Jinja, have lunch and transfer to the Source of the Nile for an hour boat ride to from shores of the Nile to the exact point where John Speke, the first European to see the source of the world’s longest river stood.

Proceed to Sipi Falls, for a simple hike at Sipi Falls characterized by four spectacular falls along river Sipi, flowing down the Mount Elgon. Each waterfall offers an experience different from another, from the plunge, beautiful views, caves, to rainbows. The entire hike will take from 3 to 4 hours. Dinner and an overnight.

Day 3:Sipi Falls – Nyero Rock paints - Transfer to Kidepo Valley NP

On this day have breakfast and depart for Kidepo valley National Park via Nyero rock paintings, these rock paintings are believed to have been made by the earlier settlers in the area. Currently it is the Itesot people who live in the area, but there are stories and tales that some little people, a bit like the Batwa who were in that area before the Itesots settled there and if you have an interest in archeology then the Nyero Rock Paintings are a site to be visited then transfer to Kidepo valley national Park the most magnificent and Africa’s finest wildernesses through the remote villages of Basoga Kingdom, Bagishu Kingdom, Karamonjos and finally into the valleys of Kidepo national park one of only 3 best National park in Africa as voted by CNN travel channel. Dinner and an overnight.

Day 4: Kidepo Valley National Park – Morning game driver – Evening nature walks / game drive

Have breakfast in the morning at the lodge, have your packed lunch and go for Kidepo Valley morning game drive “Africa’s finest wilderness” to search for the great games of the park and most of them are unique to the park these include African Elephants, Leopard, Bush bucks, Giraffes, African Buffaloes, Lion, Cheetah and this is the only park in Uganda where you can meet ostriches and cheetahs in the wild have lunch break and later go for an evening game drive to the hot springs via the palm trees lined along Kidepo River, in search for Ostriches and leopards, tortoises along the way. This Park has over 80 species of mammals several of which restricted only to Kidepo and home to over 465 species among these include the flightless bird “Ostrich”. A part from the game drive. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Kidepo Valley National Park – Morning cultural performances – Transfer to Murchison Falls National park

After your morning breakfast, be ready to be entertained by Karamojong traditional Manyattas troupes with their amazing cultural performances. The Karamojong are pastoral people and predominately breed cattle and goats, they are easily recognizable by their unique style of dress and beading, our guide will take you through the homestead designs, local cuisines and meet the elders who will narrate the tribe’s folklore and beliefs. After this morning entertainments relax and then transfer to Murchison Falls National Park the Uganda’s most visited and largest park.

Day 6: Murchison Falls NP – Morning Game drive – Afternoon boat cruise –Hiking to top of the falls

On this day after breakfast, head out for your morning game drive, this drive will provide opportunities to watch various wildlife including; elephants, buffalo, Jackson harte beest, Kobs, lion, leopard, and giraffe among others that will leave you with a taste of African Savannah wilderness. Have a short break for lunch. Later go an afternoon boat cruise to the calm Victoria Nile, at the base of waterfalls just below the devil’s cauldron. Here you can marvel at the toothsome hippos, basks of crocodiles and over a 17 km stretch you will see elephants, water bucks, Uganda kobs and more.

This area is also a habitat for many bird species including Goliath herons, Egyptian geese, shoe bill and others, then embark on an evening hiking to the top of the falls. Return to the lodge or for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Murchison Falls NP –Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park – Evening Bigodi Swamp nature walks

After breakfast check out, drive to Kibale Forest National Park with a morning game drive en-route, estimated transit time is approximately 7 hours with frequent stops to stretch legs the drive will take you through little towns and villages as you observe the African rhythm of life. On arrival, check in at your preferred accommodation to relax and later go for Bigodi sanctuary swamp evening nature walk. Kibale forest national park is proudly known to have the greatest variety of primates in Africa the most famous of its 13 species is the Chimpanzee, our closest relative also a home to the rare I’Hoest’s monkey, black and white Colobus, Blue monkey, Grey cheeked mangabey, Red tailed monkey, Olive baboon to mention but a few. Dinner and overnight.

Day 8: Chimp Tracking Kibale Forest and transfer to Kasese at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains

Have breakfast and head to the rangers’ point where you will receive some briefing on the dos and don’ts during chimp trekking. Thereafter, you will proceed to trek the chimps in the Kibale Forest. An experienced ranger guide will take you chimp tracking and you will be marveled by the sights of primates here. Once you locate the chimpanzees, you will have a full hour with them. Return to the lodge for lunch and then embark on a transfer to Kasese Town situated at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains. Day 9: Hiking Rwenzori and Transfer in the park

This one-day nature walks, or Rwenzori hike takes place along the Kilembe route. This one-day Rwenzori trekking safari starts at your hotel which is 1,450 meters above sea level.

The trek will take you through montane forest with thick trees with a variety of primates and various bird species. Climbing up a steep ridge below omusita rest spot where you will join the trail trekking down from Samalira at 2373m highest walking point. You will climb a few kilometers crossing many small streams and rivers and within a few meters a head to the birding trail, you will see bush pigs digging roots and grubs along the way.

Nya mwamba

The trails continue to the top of Nya Mwamba where you get to see the beautiful forests along the river and a small trail at the edge of the river where you can walk and look water birds. You will see chimp nests that are made of branches and twigs up in the tallest trees. You may also see white and black colobus monkey as they swing along the trees looking for trees bearing fruits and you may as well see the blue monkeys. The plant species, the thick forest and environment is worth the effort to experience. Later you will descend the mountain and return to the starting point. End of 1 days Rwenzori trekking safari.

Day 11: Morning Game drive - Afternoon Boat cruise – Community walk to Lake Katwe salt mining village

After a morning coffee, continue with your Explore Uganda Safari tour. And then head out for a morning game drive at Kasenyi track of the park. Common sightings here are; elephant, warthog, water buck, kob, leopard, lions, hyena, buffalo and so much more. After a short break visit to Katwe fishing and salt mining village. In season, you will see plenty of flamingos in this part of the park. Have lunch and go for an afternoon boat cruise on the well-known Kazinga Channel to see schools of hippos, basks of crocodiles.

Furthermore, the Channel has the highest concentration of hippos in Africa it is also a great place for birders enjoy most as you will see hundreds and hundreds of birds on the shore, you can easily identify over 40 species while on the boat cruise on Kazinga Channel. Later go for an evening game drive mainly to search for the big cats and other predators of the park. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 11: Queen Elizabeth NP – Morning game drive – Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable NP via Ishasha sector

After your morning coffee, head out for a game drive to look for wildlife on the Kasenyi track of the park. Common sightings here are; elephant, warthog, water buck, kob, leopard, lions, hyena, buffalo then drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest NP via Ishasha sector which is famous for its tree climbing lions, for another game drive to look for the tree climbing lions

Later, drive to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park a home to the famous half of the worlds endangered mountain gorillas. A magnificent verdant swathe across the steep ridges of the Albertine Rift Valley, this ancient rain forest -one of the few in Africa to have flourished throughout the last Ice Age -is home to roughly half of the world’s mountain gorillas. Arrive to check in and have lunch, relax or go for an evening village walk and shopping at the craft market before dinner. At an altitude of up to 2,607 meters (8553ft). Expect some cooler temperatures in the evening.

Day 12: Gorilla trekking Bwindi & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation, sightseeing

Have breakfast and move to the rangers’ post. You will receive some briefing (from a ranger guide) on the dos and don’ts during trekking. Thereafter, you will enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure. The beauty of this rain forest is spectacular! The area offers dramatic steeply forested landscape and is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. The time taken and the terrain vary with the movements of these great primates. Once you have located a gorilla group, you will be allowed an hour in their presence. The thrill of spending time observing these gentle but endangered giants is unforgettable.

Thereafter, you will return for lunch then drive off to Lake Bunyonyi. The lake is framed by lush, green-terraced hills that reach a height of (2,200 – 2,478m) but it’s the 29 islands of various shapes and sizes scattered across the water that make it most magical — you could admire them all day….

Day 13: Transfer to Lake Mburo NP and enjoy afternoon (evening) game viewing

Have breakfast and set off to Lake Mburo NP via Mbarara town. You will arrive in the early afternoon and take some rest before proceeding out for the late afternoon (evening) game viewing. On the game drive, expect to see the gigantic eland antelopes, zebras, topi, impalas, Uganda kob and Cape buffalos among others. Later, relax at the accommodation where you will spend the night. Optional: In case you are interested, you may go out for the breathtaking Mburo night game drive (at an extra cost on the ground). During the night game drive, expect to sight nocturnal creatures including snakes, hyena, owls and the elusive leopard (on a lucky day) among others.

Day 14: Mburo park (bush) walk and transfer to Entebbe Airport for your flight out

Enjoy your early breakfast and proceed for the Mburo morning park (bush) walk in the presence of an armed Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger/guide. On this early morning guided walk; you will have the opportunity to encounter (at close range): Zebras, Giraffes and Eland, Topi and other antelope, Cape buffaloes among others.

Take the Trail to the top of the hills and see Lake Mburo and beyond. From this vantage point, you will have a great view of 9 of the twelve lakes surrounding Lake Mburo NP. Thereafter, return to the accommodation for checkout and then hit the road to Entebbe airport for your flight out (recommended for 18:00 onward).
